WHO IT SERVES

Future Chartered Accountants

Thuthuka is specifically for eligible applicants pursuing a CA stream BCom degree and the CA(SA) pathway. It is not a general bursary for every accounting qualification.

HOW SELECTION WORKS

More than one mark

Applications are considered using academic performance, National Benchmark Test results and financial need determined through the relevant financial means test.

THE SUPPORT MODEL

Support around the student

SAICA describes social and emotional support, mentoring and counselling, life skills, readiness for work, programme management and access to professional mentors.

IMPORTANT ACTION

Plan the NBT early

SAICA currently instructs applicants to write the National Benchmark Tests before the end of August or submit existing results. Always confirm the current cycle’s instruction directly with SAICA.

Applications can fail while the learner is eligible.

The official portal warns that unsigned consent forms, missing documents, incomplete compulsory fields or failing to press “Submit” leave an application incomplete.

02 / PUBLIC FUNDING

NSFAS

Government financial aid for eligible students at public universities and TVET colleges. Apply separately even when another bursary process refers to NSFAS.

Visit the official NSFAS guide
03 / UNIVERSITY SUPPORT

Financial aid offices

Universities may administer donor, merit, hardship and gap funding opportunities. Search the official funding pages of every university to which you apply.

04 / EMPLOYER FUNDING

Accounting firm bursaries

Audit firms, banks and other employers advertise bursaries at different times and may attach vacation work or training contract conditions. Verify every offer on the employer’s own careers page.

Explore the profession with SAICA

Never pay a person to “secure” a bursary. Confirm opportunities, dates and conditions on the funder’s official website. Read contracts carefully for service obligations, vacation work, academic performance and repayment conditions.

Ask before the deadline becomes a crisis.

A mentor can help you organise the process, but the learner must submit and verify their own application.
